For the second consecutive year, the South Dakota Timed Event Championship crowned its 2012 champions. One champion horse trailer and seven event saddles were taken home Sunday evening, following the completion of the Championship at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, SD.
The South Dakota Timed Event Championship is a two day youth timed event rodeo, where the area’s toughest rodeo competitors compete for a prestigious title and significant awards. Over 100 contestants and their families traveled from as far as Texas and North Dakota to vie for the Championship title. Jason Edleman and Steven Bircholtz, producers of the event, both agreed that this year’s event was equally successful as last years.
Casey Packer, of Sturgis was named 2012 South Dakota Timed Event Champion Sunday evening. Over the two-day Championship, he competed in Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, and Team Roping with his partner, Cody Packer.
For his SD Timed Event Championship win, Packer took him a new Featherlite horse trailer, donated in part by Iverson Featherlite of Mitchell, SD. In addition to his Timed Event Championship victory, he and Cody Packer also took home the Team Roping Championship saddle.
Coming in a close second was Miller’s Hallie Fulton. Fulton took home Reserve Champion honors as well as the Barrel Racing title.
Others who took home South Dakota Timed Event honors included Jason Hapney of Harrold SD, Steer Wrestling; Kristi Steffes of Vale SD, Breakaway; Seth Andersen of Hurley SD, Calf Roping; Chesney Nagel of Springfield, Goat Tying.
This year’s Timed Event Championship seemed to be a highlight of the fair, bringing in over 100 contestants and their families to the State’s fair. Plans are already in the works for the South Dakota Timed Event Championship in 2013.
The South Dakota Timed Event Championship is not just your average youth rodeo. The Northern Plain’s toughest youth competitors will vie for the coveted title September 1st and 2nd of 2012 in Huron, SD at the South Dakota State Fair. Boys and girls will compete in gender-neutral rodeo timed events, including Tie-down Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, Team Roping, and Barrel Racing.
